A locally shot nature documentary about the plight of urban geese has been nominated for an international film award.

Modern Goose, directed by Winnipeg filmmaker Karsten Wall, is in the running for Best Short Documentary at the 40th annual International Documentary Association awards.

The 22-minute film offers an empathetic look at the ubiquitous and sometimes pesky urban animal, following the birds as they preen, forage and nest in city parks and parking lots before heading south for warmer climes.

Modern Goose is one of four Canadian docs nominated for this year’s awards, the winners of which will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Dec. 5.
