A 47-year-old man has been arrested in possession of fentanyl and meth after he allegedly led police on a chase to Southdale in a stolen vehicle. Both the vehicle and the licence plates had been previously stolen, police determined.
The police chase began at about 11:10 p.m. Dec. 28, when general patrol officers from the north district noticed a vehicle with stolen licence plates on Powers Street. The officers pursued the vehicle but the suspect fled, driving dangerously to get away, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release Sunday. The police force used its helicopter, Air1, along with multiple police ground units, to track down and contain the suspect vehicle. After a 20-minute pursuit, the driver was eventually arrested in the 100 block of Clearwater Road.
Police stated they found on the driver 2.5 grams of methamphetamine (with an estimated street value of $130), and approximately three grams of fentanyl (with an estimated street value of $500).
Ian Thomas Langridge, 47, was charged with two counts of drug possession as well as fleeing from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The suspect also had an unlawfully-at-large warrant out for his arrest, and was detained in custody.
The stolen vehicle, a 2015 Honda Civic Ex, had been reported stolen on Christmas Eve from McPhillips Street. The licence plates affixed to it were reported stolen from a parked vehicle on Greyfriars Road between Dec. 26 and Dec. 27.
