Woman arrested after armed carjacking

A woman has been charged after a machete-wielding carjacker stole a vehicle.
Police were called by the victim, a 37-year-old woman, late Monday afternoon. She told police her 2017 Dodge Caravan had been stolen from the 600 block of Elgin Avenue by a 20-year-old woman she knows at about 5 a.m. that day.
Patrolling officers saw the stolen minivan being driven on the 900 block of Winnipeg Avenue at about 12:29 a.m. Tuesday and tried to stop the driver, who sped away.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s helicopter was used to track the vehicle, and a woman was arrested in the lane behind the 600 block of Bannatyne Avenue. The Winnipegger is charged with possession of a weapon, public mischief, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order. She was detained in custody.
