Potential human remains have been found during a search at Prairie Green Landfill, the provincial government said in a news release late Wednesday afternoon.
The possible remains were identified earlier in the day after being found in search material.
“The RCMP has now initiated a found human remains investigation at the site, and steps for identification are underway,” a news release said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been contacted.
Excavation work at the landfill north of Winnipeg and a search through material for the remains of two victims of serial killer Jeremy Skibicki began at Prairie Green this December.
“The families of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran have been notified of this development and attended the site,” the release said.
“The Manitoba government asks for respect for their privacy at this time.”
