Outlet Collection Winnipeg will have a new face Saturday: Clover the cow.
The lifesize plastic-and-rubber cow simulator — designed for teaching about calving — is one of the draws scheduled for this year’s Discover Agriculture in the City, a free day-long event.
The showcase begins at 10 a.m., with a swath of interactive exhibits. Strawberry planting (with a take-home plant), potato stamp-making and wheel-of-chicken spinning are on the agenda.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada puts on the informational gathering, meant to promote local food and farms. Agriculture in the Classroom, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba and Keystone Agriculture Producers are among the exhibitors.
At 1 p.m., University of Manitoba students will pitch their food product creations to a panel of judges. Discover Agriculture in the City runs until 5 p.m. in the southwest corner of the southwest Winnipeg mall, near the Under Armour store.
Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-food sector accounts for one in 20 jobs in the province. It generated $18.8 billion in direct output, per government data.
