Winnipeg police say a 15-year-old girl and 18-year-old man have been upgraded to stable condition after being assaulted with a machete early Friday.

Officers were called to the 700 block of Alverstone Street around 3:30 a.m. for a report of an assault, a Saturday media release states.

The girl and man were found injured, and police say they provided emergency medical care until paramedics arrived. They were taken to hospital in critical and unstable condition but have since improved, “despite their serious injuries,” say police.

It’s believed the suspects assaulted the pair before fleeing on foot.

The major crimes unit is investigating the incident. Anyone with information or video surveillance in the area is asked to contact the unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477, or submit a secure tip online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
