Meter readers will begin visiting homes Monday as part of an annual program, the City of Winnipeg said Friday.

Meter readers will be visiting homes on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. and will be wearing a uniform with the city logo.

The city reminded homeowners to ask for identification before allowing a meter reader into their home.

Meter readers will knock only at front and side doors, not back doors, a news release said.

At least one accurate meter reading is required for each household annually.

The meter-reading program will continue until Aug. 29.
