The reopening of the Louise Bridge has been delayed a third time.

The 115-year-old span, which crosses the Red River at Stadacona Street and Higgins Avenue, is now expected to remain closed until early September.

The bridge was closed for an annual inspection and maintenance May 23. It was expected to reopen May 27, but the date was changed to June 1 after crews discovered more extensive repairs were needed. The City of Winnipeg announced May 30 that the work was expected to be completed by the end of July.

“In the course of completing the corrosion repairs, we discovered additional defects on the bridge,” the city said in a news release Friday. “These will require additional time to fix.”

The bridge remains open to pedestrians and cyclists, but that access might cease intermittently as work continues.
