Mounties seized guns, drugs and ammunition during a traffic stop in Dauphin last week.
Police stopped a truck at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, after an officer noticed it was driving with a stolen licence plate, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
RCMP arrested a male driver and a female passenger, and confirmed the truck had been reported stolen, police said.
Further investigation revealed both occupants had outstanding arrest warrants. The man was also driving without a driver’s licence and was impaired by an illicit drug, police said.
“After a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located two loaded firearms, drug paraphernalia, illicit drugs, and ammunition. Both occupants were not lawfully able to possess firearms,” the release said.
A 32-year-old man from Gilbert Plains faces 17 charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm and a slate of traffic offences.
A 34-year-old woman, from Grandview, is charged with seven offences, including possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm and unlawful transportation of cannabis in a vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.
