‘Serious’ crash on Highway 8 

Mounties were sent to the scene of “a serious” two-vehicle collision involving a SUV and a semi-trailer in the Interlake on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 8 and Provincial Road 229 west of Gimli sometime before 3 p.m.

A spokeswoman for Manitoba RCMP said late that afternoon that she did not know how serious the injuries were.

Highway 8 was closed in the area after the crash.

Another RCMP spokesperson said Thursday that officers had initial information that the SUV driver might have been armed, leading at least one officer to draw a semi-automatic rifle during the response, but it was not confirmed whether the driver had a weapon.
