SOOKE – Mounties in Sooke, B.C., say seven teenagers are facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting another youth in an attack police say was shared on social media.

They say the victim was “severely assaulted” by the group on Goodmere Road on the evening of July 2, and the victim’s family contacted the detachment to report the incident.

Police say the victim required medical care after the alleged assault, but did not specify what injuries they sustained.

Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Greg Willcocks says in a news release that the detachment is taking the allegations of the alleged assault “very seriously.”

He says police are aware of concerns from parents about the arrest of one youth that took place near school grounds.

The Mounties say all of the suspects have been identified and arrested, and their names are protected under the Criminal Justice Act.

Police are now encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact the detachment.
