Here’s a round-up of hours of business for services and things to do on Thanksgiving Day.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Thanksgiving fireworks
On Sunday, Oct. 12, the Sage Creek Residents’ Association is planning to host a Thanksgiving fireworks display. The event is set to kick off at 9 p.m. in Qualico’s Field. Details here.
Thanksgiving dinner
Transcona Community Church is hosting a free, community dinner at Park City Community Centre (115 Sanford Fleming Rd.) on Monday, Oct. 13. Register in advance here. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; meal served at 5 p.m.
Autumn ritual
See a sunset goose flight at FortWhyte Alive until Oct. 19. Tickets are $10 or free for members. Details here.
GOVERNMENT SERVICES
Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed on Monday, Oct. 13.
There is no mail delivery. Canada Post workers are in the process of a labour action which may involve rotating work stoppages.
City cemetery grounds are open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The administration office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed.)
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Oct. 13. Plan your specific route and see service alerts on the Winnipeg Transit site.
RECYCLING AND TRASH
Recycling and garbage will be collected as usual.
The Brady Road landfill is open.
The 4R Winnipeg depot at the Brady landfill will be closed. All 4R Recycling depots are now closed on statutory holidays as of fall 2025.
RECREATION AND LEISURE
All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13. Some libraries will be open Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, including Bill and Helen Norrie, Charleswood, Harvey Smith, Henderson, Louis Riel, Pembina Trail, St. Boniface, Sir William Stephenson, Transcona and Westwood. Those branches are all open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday (Find your great next read in our Books section.)
Arenas will be closed Oct. 13.
Most leisure centres will be closed, except: Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, (999 Sargent Ave.) which will be open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Most City of Winnipeg indoor swimming pools will be closed, except Margaret Grant Pool (685 Dalhousie Drive), which is open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Pan Am Pool (25 Poseidon Bay), which is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Major movie theatres will be open. (Not sure what to see? Find news and reviews in our Movies section.)
The Assiniboine Park Zoo will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indoor biomes at The Leaf are open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. See what’s on. Boo at the Zoo is closed Oct. 13 and 14. Get tickets for other dates here.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed. See current exhibits and events.
The Manitoba Children’s Museum will be open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Check out their featured events.

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Upcoming events.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be closed. Current exhibitions.
FortWhyte Alive is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. Calendar of events.
The Crescent Drive, Harbour View, John Blumberg, Kildonan Park, Canoe Club and Windsor Park golf courses will be open, weather permitting.
SHOPPING
Most larger chain grocery stores are open, but you might want to call ahead to check the hours at your preferred shop.
CF Polo Park, Garden City Shopping Centre, Kildonan Place, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and St. Vital Centre will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Portage Place will be closed.
The Forks Market will be open; tenant hours may vary.
Most Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the True North Square location, which will be closed. Check hours at your preferred store.
Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for holidays, so call ahead.
