Firefighters spent an hour battling a blaze at a convenience store in the Weston neighbourhood early Tuesday.

Crews were sent to the one-and-a-half storey commercial and residential building at 1521 Logan Ave. at 1:20 a.m. and declared the fire under control shortly after 2:20 a.m.

All the people inside the building got out before firefighters arrived, but a cat was killed.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release.

The building was designed by a Toronto architectural firm and built as a bank in 1906, the Manitoba Historical Society’s website states. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce occupied the building until 1964, the website states.
