Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and doubles partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand have split up as a team.

The pairing won three doubles titles together in 2025, winning in Stuttgart, Cincinnati and at the U.S. Open.

“Titles, tears, and triumphs,” wrote Dabrowski in an Instagram post. “A rollercoaster of emotion no one could have predicted.

“A business partnership comes to its end, and a friendship remains.”

Although Routliffe plays under New Zealand’s flag, she holds Canadian citizenship and had previously played for Canada.

Dabrowski and Routliffe started playing together in 2023, winning the U.S. Open that year, a first Grand Slam title for both players.

Although Wednesday’s announcement made the split official, Dabrowski and Routliffe had begun playing with other partners toward the end of this past season but reunited at the WTA Finals.

Mayor Gillingham poised for repeat

Chris Kitching 7 minute read Updated: 8:29 PM CDT

Incumbent mayoral candidate Scott Gillingham remains in the lead among decided voters in a new poll that suggests a majority of Winnipeggers want change ahead of Wednesday’s election.

Gillingham was backed by 36 per cent of decided voters in an Abacus Data survey released Friday, followed by candidates Kevin Klein (19 per cent) and Mike Vogiatzakis and a surging Noah Redden, who were tied for third (both at 14 per cent).

While a majority of respondents expressed a desire for a new mayor, Curtis Brown, a vice-president with Abacus, said “none of the other candidates has convincingly made the case that they represent the best change.”

“In the absence of that, Scott Gillingham definitely has the advantage. He looks likely to be able to win,” Brown said.

Kinew gives election-style speech to party faithful in Brandon

BRANDON — Premier Wab Kinew revved up into election mode as he highlighted the strengths and momentum of his party’s candidates while touching on a variety of other topics during the NDP’s gala in Brandon Thursday.

Kinew started his election-style speech by revisiting the close result the party received in Spruce Woods in last year’s byelection, when candidate Ray Berthelette came within 70 votes of Progressive Conservative Colleen Robbins in an area that historically garners strong PC support.

“Seventy votes — pretty darn close. You’re the man, Ray,” Kinew said during his 21-minute speech at the Keystone Centre in front of a crowd of about 300 politicians, business leaders and community members.

“And thanks for opening up people’s minds to show them what’s possible in southwestern Manitoba,” Kinew said.

Krahn returns, Boyko primed to lead as University of Manitoba Bisons serves squad depleted of vets

Rowan Krahn has been told most of his career that he couldn’t do it. And recently, injuries wouldn’t let him.

For the first time in two years, Krahn gets to prove he can.

The Manitoba Bisons’ fifth-year outside hitter is undersized for his position.

It’s always been that way. Since he was a teen, talent evaluators have recommended that he play libero, a conventional position for a shorter player. That advice has largely fallen on deaf ears.

Masked, armed robbers terrorize elderly residents inside Crestview home

Erik Pindera 3 minute read Yesterday at 3:13 PM CDT

Several masked and armed suspects forced their way into a home on Lake Ridge Road in Winnipeg’s west suburbs late on Monday, terrorizing the elderly residents as they robbed the place.

Winnipeg Police Service major crimes investigators, who are asking the public for assistance, are trying to identify the suspects and learn about their movements in the area before and after the robbery, said police spokesman Const. Stephen Spencer.

“It would definitely help to have some more information as to who the individuals are. It would be great if somebody had video of the individuals prior to arriving at this location, when they weren’t wearing face coverings, or after,” said Spencer.

“If neighbours in the area maybe noticed something suspicious, around the Lakeridge Park area… around that time of night, if they did see something suspicious, definitely come forward — it could be helpful with solving this case.”
