OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators reacquired defenceman Dennis Gilbert in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, sending blue-liner Max Guenette the other way.

Gilbert appeared in four games with Ottawa last season after arriving from the Buffalo Sabres on March 7.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Flyers as a free agent on July 1. The Buffalo, N.Y., native has been playing with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League this season, where he has one assist in six games.

Gilbert was a third-round pick (91st overall) by Chicago in the 2015 NHL draft. In parts of six NHL seasons with Chicago, Colorado and Calgary, he’s put up 20 points — three goals and 17 assists — across 111 games.

Guenette was a seventh-round pick (187th overall) in the 2019 NHL draft. He appeared in just eight games for the Senators over the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, collecting two penalty minutes.

The 24-year-old had 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 58 games for the Belleville Senators of the AHL last season.
