Police are alerting the public about a sex offender released from custody Wednesday who is considered a high risk to reoffend.
Desmond Jared Shane Catcheway, 36, is expected to live in Winnipeg. He is considered a high risk to reoffend in a sexual and possibly violent manner, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit — a joint unit composed of Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP members — said in a news release.
“He has a history of sexually assaulting unconscious females,” the release said.
Catcheway was released from the Winnipeg Remand Centre with conditions on a recognizance after being transferred from Stony Mountain Institution.
He has past sexual assault convictions for three separate incidents, the release said, and has refused to participate in required sexual offender programming while in custody.
Catcheway was sentenced in December 2022 for an incident in April 2021 where he sent a youth pornographic photos, videos and sexually motivated questions, and invited the youth to meet with him.
