A man is facing charges after he was caught with drugs and an illegally altered pistol, city police say.
Officers stopped a 2015 Hyundai Accent after the driver made an improper turn at the intersection of Andrews Street and Flora Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.
Officers saw “signs of drug trafficking” in the car and seized a loaded handgun with a tampered serial number. They also found cocaine, oxycodone pills, hydromorphone pills, percocet pills and fentanyl, the release said.
The drugs have a total estimated street value of more than $8,500, the WPS said.
The driver and lone person in the car, a 24-year-old man, has been charged with nearly a dozen criminal offences and was given a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act. He was detained in custody.
