Partial human remains were found in a lane behind Selkirk Avenue on Sunday.
Police were alerted to the remains behind the 600 block at about 1:30 p.m. An autopsy confirmed the remains were human, police said Wednesday.
The Winnipeg Police Service homicide unit is investigating the situation as a suspicious death.

“There is no further information about the deceased person’s identity at this time,” the release said.
An employee at a Selkirk Avenue mechanic shop on the 600 block of Selkirk said police were searching “desperately” in their back alley Tuesday, the day before police issued the release.
“Two cadets and two cops were looking on the ground,” the employee, who asked to not be named out of concern for his safety, said from the alley.
Police did not confirm that the remains had been found outside of the business. The employee said police took items from the alley and placed them into several large garbage bags.
While he said he’s sad remains were found, he isn’t surprised considering the amount of crime he and his brother have witnessed.
“In this area, (we see) a murder case, within a month, once or twice,” he said.
Police asked anyone with information about the remains to call the homicide unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
