Crews extinguished three fires late Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Firefighters were sent to a six-storey apartment building on the 700 block of Sargent Avenue at 11:35 p.m. and declared a fire in one of the suites under control shortly before midnight.
Fire damage was mostly contained to the suite, while parts of the building sustained smoke and water damage.
Shortly after 11:45 p.m., crews were sent to a house on the 800 block of College Avenue and declared a fire there under control shortly after 12:20 a.m. Thursday.
The sole person inside got out before crews arrived and was taken to hospital in stable condition.
“Preliminary observations suggest the cause of the fire was accidental and related to smoking,” the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said of both Wednesday fires.
Shortly before 3:55 a.m. Thursday, crews were sent to a 10-storey apartment building on the 1300 block of Taylor Avenue and declared a fire there under control about 15 minutes later.
The fire was contained to a suite and was apparently caused by an electrical failure, the WFPS said.
