TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays selected right-hander Spencer Miles from the San Francisco Giants in the major-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old returned to the Arizona Fall League this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2024.
The six-foot-three, 180-pounder made five appearances for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He had 12 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings, with his fastball topping out at 98.4 m.p.h.
Miles was picked by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2022 first-year player draft. He missed the 2023 season after undergoing back surgery.
Miles made five appearances in 2024 before he suffered a right flexor strain that led to elbow surgery.
Rule 5 draft picks are assigned directly to the drafting club’s 26-man roster. They must be placed on outright waivers in order to be removed from the roster in the subsequent season.
