A weekend fire at a downtown high-rise apartment building is under investigation.

No injuries were reported; some residents self-evacuated and some sheltered in place at the Carlton Street apartment building.

At 8:29 p.m. on Saturday, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a 10-storey apartment building in the 0 to 100 block of Carlton Street, the department stated in a news release Sunday.

Crews found smoke in the building and quickly brought the fire under control. No other details were released.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. They located a fire and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was quickly brought under control.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service also issued safety tips for space heaters, block heaters and extension cords on Sunday after crews responded to at least three garage fires in the past 24 hours. The garage fires occurred on St. Martin Boulevard, Downing Street and Inkster Boulevard.
