MONTREAL – CF Montreal acquired midfielder Ivan Losenko on a one-year loan from Ukrainian Premier League side FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
The deal includes renewal options for the 2027 sprint season and the 2027-28 campaign as Major League Soccer shifts to a summer-to-spring calendar.
A permanent transfer option will be available to Montreal after the loan renewals.
Shakhtar Donetsk retains a buyback clause for Losenko in exchange for an undisclosed fee.
Losenko, a 21-year-old Ukrainian and Shakhtar Donetsk academy product, played 11 games in the country’s top flight this season for FC Kudrivka while on loan.
Internationally, the six-foot-one, 155-pound midfielder has suited up for Ukraine’s under-16, U19 and U21 national teams.
“We’re pleased to make Ivan’s acquisition,” CF Montreal managing director Luca Saputo said in a statement. “He’s a young player with a strong technical ability and a good vision of the game, particularly in his ability to play the ball out from the back and between the lines. In addition to his playing attributes, his personality should allow him to quickly integrate into our group.”
