Police say a man who was charged with murder in the 2024 death of a woman in Niagara Region is now facing an additional 25 sexual abuse charges.

Niagara regional police say they had launched a parallel investigation involving the 44-year-old suspect in the murder of 62-year-old Cathy Prosje, who was found dead in Smithville, Ont. on April 26, 2024.

As a result, the man was later charged with voyeurism and possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police say additional child sexual abuse material was found in September 2025.

The suspect has now been charged with another 25 offences, including five counts of secretly recording a person for a sexual purpose, seven counts of making child sexual abuse and exploitation material and four counts of sexual assault against a person under the age of 16. 

Police say the accused remains in custody and is awaiting trial.
