Man charged after taxi robbery

A 42-year-old man has been charged after a taxi driver was robbed of his personal property and vehicle, a Saturday media release states.

Winnipeg police say the driver was transporting a passenger around 5:22 p.m. in the Roslyn neigbourhood when he was assaulted and threatened with a weapon. The suspect allegedly stole the driver’s belongings, destroyed the taxi’s camera, and continued to assault and threaten the driver until he exited the vehicle.

Police found the suspect driving the taxi near River Avenue and Norquay Street.

He has been charged with robbery, uttering threats, failure to comply with a demand, identity fraud, possession of an identity document, and operation of a vehicle while impaired. The suspect was detained in custody.
