Seven people were assessed for their injuries after a house fire broke out in the West End on Saturday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said three people were rushed to hospital in critical condition and two in stable condition.

Two other residents were assessed by paramedics and didn’t need to be taken to hospital.

Heavy flames and smoke were coming out of the house on the 300 block of Agnes Street when firefighters arrived at about 9:42 a.m.

It took almost five hours for the fire to be declared under control at 2:32 p.m. The house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Firefighters evacuated the two neighbouring houses as a precaution and Winnipeg Transit brought a bus to serve as temporary shelter for the residents.

No cause has been determined and the fire is under investigation.
