10:14 AM
Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard has announced $950,000 to make improvements to the waste site that services Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation, a Saturday news release says.
The funds, which are being issued through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities program, will be used to expand and modernize the landfill site’s infrastructure by increasing capacity and enhancing diversion efforts.
More information on the program can be found on the province’s website.
Two arrested in bar fight
8:48 AM
Two people were arrested for interfering with officers trying to break up a fight Wednesday night.
Winnipeg Police Service officers were sent to a lounge after a report of a fight involving about 15 people on the 1100 block of Main Street.
Police arrived at 10:55 p.m. and found two men continuing to fight. As they tried to break it up, a 27-year-old woman kicked an officer and spat on another, a Saturday police news release stated. Police said a 25-year-old man tried to prevent officers from detaining one of the men involved in the fight.
The woman faces two charges of assaulting a peace officer and resisting a peace officer. She was released on an appearance notice.
The man faces a charge of obstructing justice. He was released on an undertaking.
One of the men who was fighting was detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act. The other was released without charges.
