The Red River portion of the Nestaweya River Trail will be closed to allow maintenance work on the Historic Rail Bridge before seasonal ice conditions change, The Forks announced on Monday.
The Assiniboine River portion of the trail (from The Forks to Hugo Docks), the canopy, and the upper skating trails remain open for skating, subject to ice and weather conditions, the organization said in a news release.
The maintenance work includes removing the steel framing that housed the bridge counterweight system. Completing the work while the ice remains stable provides a safe and practical window for crews ahead of the spring thaw.
