It’ll be big year for Pullmans at the Oscars. The show’s producers said Wednesday that Bill Pullman and his son Lewis Pullman have joined the starry roster of presenters for Sunday’s live broadcast of the 98th annual Academy Awards.

Also included in this batch are nominees Rose Byrne, Wagner Moura and Delroy Lindo, former Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel, as well as Pedro Pascal, Channing Tatum and Sigourney Weaver.

Oscars producers told The Associated Press that audiences should expect even more stars than have been announced, though. Showrunner and executive producer Raj Kapoor said the list is “jaw-dropping” and there will be plenty of surprises throughout the evening, including reunions and some appearances by people who haven’t been on the stage in a long time.

Here’s everything else you need to know.

When are the Oscars?

The Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 15, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The show, to be broadcast live by ABC, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific.

Who’s hosting?

After successfully presiding over the 97th Oscars, Conan O’Brien is hosting for the second year straight. His return to the Oscars stage was announced almost a year ago. In a statement last March, he said, “The only reason I’m hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech.”

Are the Oscars streaming?

Like last year, the Oscars will be streamed live on Hulu. You can also watch via Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV and FuboTV. With authentication from your provider, you can watch on ABC.com and the ABC app.

Who’s nominated for an Oscar this year?

This year’s nominees for best actress are Jessie Buckley for “Hamnet,” Rose Byrne for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” Renate Reinsve for “Sentimental Value,” Emma Stone for “Bugonia” and Kate Hudson for “Song Sung Blue.”

The best actor nominees are Timothée Chalamet for “Marty Supreme,” Leonardo DiCaprio for “One Battle After Another,” Ethan Hawke for “Blue Moon,” Michael B. Jordan for “Sinners” and Wagner Moura for “The Secret Agent.”

In the supporting actor categories, the nominees are Jacob Elordi for “Frankenstein,” Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro for “One Battle After Another,” Stellan Skarsgård for “Sentimental Value” and Delroy Lindo for “Sinners.”

The supporting actress nominees are Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for “Sentimental Value,” Amy Madigan for “Weapons,” Wunmi Mosaku for “Sinners” and Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another.”

Who are the favorites to win?

For months, “One Battle After Another” has been the clear front-runner for best picture and best director but, in the past week, it’s looking like it might be in for a closer race in a showdown with “Sinners.” “Sinners” is this year’s leading nominee, breaking the record for most nominations by a single film with 16. Associated Press Film Writers Jake Coyle and Lindsey Bahr predict that “One Battle After Another” will still take best picture and best director. They also think Buckley will win best actress, Jordan will get best actor and Taylor supporting actress, but they’re split on supporting actor: Coyle thinks it will go to Penn; Bahr is staking her bet on Lindo.

Who is performing at the show?

The show will feature live performances of best song nominees “Golden,” from “KPop Demon Hunters,” and “I Lied to You,” from “Sinners.”

Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq will be on hand for the “Sinners” moment, which aims to explore the role music plays in the film with the help of ballet dancer Misty Copeland, blues musicians Eric Gales, Buddy Guy and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, actors Jayme Lawson and Li Jun Li as well as Brittany Howard, Bobby Rush, Shaboozey and Alice Smith.

Rei Ami, EJAE and Audrey Nuna are also set to perform “Golden” around a broader showcase of the folklore behind the animated sensation, including Korean instrumentalists and dance.

Josh Groban is also involved in the show, but his participation is being left more ambiguous.

How can I watch the Oscar-nominated films?

Some of the nominees are still in theaters, but many of this year’s Oscar nominees are streaming on various platforms. The AP has a handy guide available here.

What stars are presenting awards?

Last year’s best actor winners Adrien Brody and Mikey Madison and supporting actor winners Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldaña will hand out trophies at the show, as will the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Javier Bardem, Maya Rudolph, Chase Infiniti, Demi Moore, Kumail Nanjiani, Anne Hathaway, Will Arnett, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Paul Mescal.

Expect a very special in memoriam

The deaths of many beloved figures in the film world over the past year have hit hard, including Robert Redford, Diane Keaton, Rob Reiner, Catherine O’Hara, Robert Duvall, Val Kilmer, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, James Van Der Beek and Claudia Cardinale, just to name a few.

Last year, Morgan Freeman took the stage to honor Gene Hackman, who had been found dead just days earlier, and others. This year, there have been rumors about Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal joining forces for Reiner, but the organizers are neither confirming nor denying that reunion.

“Obviously we’re paying special attention to the in memoriam this year. It’s going to be robust and beautiful and very, very moving,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer said. “We won’t give away any secrets. You’ll have to tune in.”

As always, there will be a longer version of the in memoriam available online to recognize people who might not make the broadcast cut.

Widespread fraud among ride-service drivers: MPI

Erik Pindera 2 minute read 1:00 PM CDT

Ride-service drivers have been defrauding Manitoba Public Insurance by improperly insuring their vehicles as for personal use.

The public insurer and the City of Winnipeg, which regulates ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft, discovered the widespread fraud after MPI conducted a review in December last year, the Crown corporation announced at a news conference Thursday.

MPI’s review looked at a random sample of 408 ride-hailing vehicles and found 108 were operating without the proper vehicle-for-hire insurance coverage. In order to register with the city as a ride-service driver, a vehicle must have such insurance and proof must be provided to the ride-booking company.

After being approved to work as Uber or Lyft drivers with proof of the proper insurance, the drivers would change their coverage to personal all-purpose or pleasure use policies, which are as much as 50 per cent cheaper. Officials said it was intentional fraud.

Stuart Skinner is giving the hometown crowd plenty to cheer about.

The Winnipeg Jets new No. 1 netminder came up with another brilliant performance, making 32 saves — including several of the highlight-reel variety — to propel his team to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night at Canada Life Centre.

With each save he makes and each win he records, Skinner is doing what he can to help turn the page on the Connor Hellebuyck era.

“I would say that they are big shoes to fill 100 per cent, but I’m not looking into the scenario of filling his shoes,” said Skinner, who lowered his goals-against average to 2.62 and raised his save percentage to .920 through three starts. “My job’s the same job as any other goalie in this league. So it’s a little bit of a difficult question for me to truly answer.”

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Canadian poet, essayist and translator Anne Carson won the Nobel Prize in literature Thursday for “bold and inventive” works that fuse the classical and the modern and blur the boundaries of poetry and prose.

The Toronto-born Carson, 76, has drawn on themes from classical Greek and Roman literature, modern influences and personal experience for genre-blending titles that have ranged from translations of ancient Greek poets to collaborations with dancers and musicians, including Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed.

The Swedish Academy that awards the prize said she won “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.”

The permanent secretary of the academy said the author was in Iceland “listening to the wind” when the panel reached her to notify her of the honor.

Police seize cocaine valued at $1.5M, about $750K in cash in raid on St. Vital house

Scott Billeck 5 minute read Updated: 1:27 PM CDT

A St. Vital homeowner and her husband were going about their business during an afternoon last month when police officers in tactical gear suddenly appeared, walking across their front lawn.

The target was a few doors down: a home on a quiet stretch of Satinwood Place, within earshot of children playing outside at a nearby school.

The homeowner, who asked not to be named to protect their privacy, said the police presence caught the couple by surprise in the Southglen neighbourhood, where they weren’t accustomed to seeing that kind of activity.

“We never heard the (police) cars pull up, but there were cars blocking the entrance to the street from both sides,” said the neighbour. “They had a shield, a battering ram — everything. Just not used to seeing that.”
