MAPLE RIDGE – A 45-year-old man is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of another man following a fight at a Metro Vancouver home earlier this month.

Police say the BC Prosecution Service on Monday upgraded a previous charge of assault causing bodily harm approved against the accused last week.

Investigators say police had responded to the home in Maple Ridge, B.C., at about 7:30 p.m. on March 16 and found a 49-year-old man in medical distress.

The man was treated at the scene but did not survive his injuries, and one suspect was taken into custody.

Police say the two men were known to each other and the fight appears to have been an isolated incident.

The accused remains in custody pending a scheduled court appearance.
