Police are warning the public about the release of a high-risk sex offender who is expected to live in Winnipeg.

On Thursday, the joint Winnipeg Police Service-RCMP Manitoba integrated high-risk sex offender unit announced the release of Richard Kofe Asante from Stony Mountain prison.

Police said the 35-year-old is at a high-risk to sexually reoffend, putting all adult women at risk.

Asante was convicted in 2023 of sexual assault with a weapon and sexual assault by choking, suffocating or strangling. He served more than three years in Manitoba’s federal penitentiary before his statutory release Thursday.

He’s described as five feet 10 inches tall, weighs 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and has several tattoos on his right arm. This includes a pair of playing cards with the words “King” and “Kofi” on them.

Asante has to abide by numerous conditions, including no alcohol or drugs and is prohibited from having any weapons for 10 years.

Anyone with information about Asante is asked to contact police.
