Police say two people are dead after a targeted shooting outside a Brampton elementary school Friday night.

Peel Regional Police media relations office Laurie McCann says a teenage boy and a man in his 20s were both shot and died at the scene in the area of Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail.

McCann says the preliminary investigation indicates there was an argument between a group of people on the grounds outside St. Joachim Elementary School, which escalated into gun violence.

The media relations officer says one of the victims who was shot fled the area but collapsed a short time later.

McCann says a suspect or suspects also fled the scene, though its unclear if they left on foot or in a vehicle.

She says police do not have a description for the suspect or suspects at this time.

McCann says Peel Regional Police’s homicide unit is out canvassing and speaking to witnesses as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has video surveillance or dash camera footage from the area on Friday night around 10:30 p.m. to come forward.
