SURREY – A man has been arrested by police in Surrey, B.C., in an investigation into illegal manufacturing of 3D printed firearms.
Police say the investigation began in March when officers learned of someone making the weapons, as well as uploading the schematics for the guns online.
Canada updated its Criminal Code in 2023, outlawing the distribution of data involving 3D printed firearms, in a law that police say is “unique” to the country.
Police say they identified the suspect in the case and arrested the man last week, and he remains in custody while charges are pending.
Investigators say they also conducted a search of the suspect’s home in Surrey and uncovered a “clandestine firearms manufacturing lab.”
Also seized were a loaded, 3D printed semi-automatic rifle, six printed handguns, several suppressors and magazines, three printers and a homemade test-firing station, among other items.
