KITCHENER – Police in Kitchener, Ont., say a man has been charged with stealing a ceremonial gong from a cancer centre.

Waterloo Regional Police say they received a report earlier Monday about a theft at Midtown hospital.

It’s alleged the man stole the gong from the cancer centre, run by the Waterloo Regional Health Network, a little more than a week ago.

Gongs and bells are often used by patients in hospital cancer sections to mark the completion of their cancer treatments.

Police say the 44-year-old accused has been charged with theft under $5,000 dollars and was held for a bail hearing.

They say the gong has not been found and anyone with information is to contact police.
