WINNIPEG – A man in the United States has been charged with sexual exploitation and possessing child pornography in relation to a 10-year-old girl in Manitoba.
RCMP say they received a report in December that the girl had been lured online and had been convinced to send explicit photos of herself via a social media platform.
They say the male had also sent explicit photos to the girl.
Authorities in the United States were alerted, searched a home in Wadsworth, Ohio, and in February arrested a 32-year-old suspect who remains in custody there.
RCMP say it’s important for parents to set rules for kids, such as limiting time spent online.
Federal Culture Minister Marc Miller said last month the government is “very seriously” considering a social media ban for kids, and Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has said his government will move on the idea for those under 16.
