RCMP investigating after body found in Riverton
2:53 PM
RCMP are investigating after human remains were found on a property in Riverton.
On Tuesday, Mounties from the Gimli detachment were called about possible human remains in the community, located 130 kilometres north of Winnipeg, said an RCMP news release Wednesday.
Officers confirmed that human remains had been found.
RCMP say they’re investigating and have yet to identify the body.
Major crimes detectives have taken over the case, said the RCMP, and further information will be released when it’s available.
Man charged with manslaughter in death of well-known chef in Ste. Anne
2:43 PM
A 46-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a well-known chef and community volunteer in the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne early this month.
Steinbach RCMP were called to a home in the RM just after 11:30 p.m. on May 2 over a reported aggravated assault and found 49-year-old Cameron Huley suffering from serious injuries. He died hours later in hospital, police said.
RCMP said on Thursday that major crime investigators have determined Huley was at a party outside a home that night, where an altercation ensued between several people, leaving Huley with the injury that killed him.
Huley and the suspect were guests at the party and did not know each other previously.
On Wednesday, RCMP arrested Jeff Wyness, a 46-year-old from the RM, and charged him with manslaughter. He’s been released on conditions ahead of a court date. Mounties are still investigating the slaying.
Huley was a restaurant industry consultant for Food Service Solutions Canada and a volunteer firefighter with the Town of Ste. Anne fire department. He formerly worked with the Ste. Anne Police Department as an auxiliary police officer.
RCMP arrest four following Portage la Prairie business break-in
11:13 AM
Two people have been accused of breaking into a Portage la Prairie business and stealing more than $10,000 worth of tools and other items last week.
RCMP were called to a business on the 2700 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West just after 4 a.m. on May 8, where they learned a man and a woman had driven up behind the building and loaded tools and work equipment in their vehicle before heading off.
Mounties learned the thieves had actually stolen from an adjacent business and identified two suspects. Officers executed a search warrant on a home on 18th St. Northwest, where they found the stolen goods, half a gram of meth, four grams of fentanyl, drug paraphernalia and $780 in cash.
Police arrested four people who were inside the home, including the 39-year-old man and 24-year-old woman accused of the break-in. A 35-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were charged with possessing stolen property.

21 loaded guns seized from Cumberland Avenue apartment: police
10:44 AM
A 24-year-old man has been accused of weapons trafficking and drug dealing after a probe by Winnipeg police resulted in 21 loaded pistols being seized from a Central Park area residence.
Organized crime investigators began looking into allegations someone was selling drugs from an apartment on Cumberland Avenue earlier this month, the Winnipeg Police Service said on Wednesday.
Last Thursday, officers executed a warrant at the suite on the 300 block of Cumberland, where they found 21 loaded handguns, a silencer, various ammunition, 27 grams of cocaine, about $25,000 in cash, a laptop and two cellphones.
Jawad Miakhail, 24, has been charged with dozens of weapons offences, as well as possession for the purpose of weapons trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000 and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was held in custody.
Miakhail has no prior record in Manitoba, court records show.
