CHARLOTTETOWN – Prince Edward Island RCMP say a youth was seriously injured after being struck by a tractor-trailer while crossing a road to meet a school bus.

Police say the youth is over the age of 12 and was hit just before 8 a.m. on Route 2 in Dunstaffnage, about 12 kilometres northeast of Charlottetown.

In a news release, police say the youth was seriously injured and taken to hospital in Charlottetown.

It says the school bus appeared to be slowing down for a routine stop.

Route 2 is a highway that runs nearly the length of the Island, and it was closed for several hours in the area of the collision.

The Mounties say they don’t believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
