Mayor launches scholarship to support ‘sky economy’

Winnipeg’s mayor has launched a new scholarship for aerospace students looking to elevate their career.
On Monday Mayor Scott Gillingham announced the Sky Economy Scholarship Program that will see five $1,000 scholarships given to students training to be part of the city’s “sky economy,” said a news release from the mayor’s office.
Students training in the field of aerospace engineering, aerospace manufacturing and aerospace maintenance can apply, alongside students in aviation flight programs, said the release.
Eligible post-secondary programs include aerospace engineering and graduate studies at the University of Manitoba. The aerospace manufacturing and aircraft maintenance programs at RRC Polytech, the release said, alongside physics, computer science, environmental science and geography courses related to climate/weather and aerospace studies at the University of Winnipeg.
Students attending accredited powered- or gilder-flight-training programs based in Winnipeg, or at the St. Andrews Airport, can also apply for the scholarship.
