Stolen goods, drugs, weapons seized in WPS raid on Dominion Street home

Winnipeg police officers raided a home on Dominion Street in the West End last week in the culmination of a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking and other criminal activity in the area after residents raised concerns.

Winnipeg Police Service community support officers began getting complaints about drug dealing from residents in March and later identified a residence on Dominion Street, south of Ellice Avenue, linked to an assortment of criminal activity.

Thieves twice broke into a home on the 400 block of Waverley Street, in River Heights, on June 7 and 8 and made off with $40,000 worth of coins and jewellery, as well as a chequebook, police said.

Then a 45-year-old man told police someone had used a gun to prevent him from leaving the Dominion Street residence late Sunday or early Monday.

In the early evening last Monday, tactical officers and community support investigators went to execute a warrant on the house and found three people suffering from apparent drug overdoses outside.

The officers gave the individuals first aid until paramedics arrived, then executed the warrant.

Officers seized a sawed-off shotgun, several air pistols, assorted ammunition, a metal bar, a machete, a sword, two buck knives and a pair of nun-chucks.

Police also found about 100 grams of fentanyl, four grams of methamphetamine and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.

Officers seized several electric bicycles and mountain bikes, jewellery, electronics, two cartons of untaxed cigarettes, a point-of-sale payment device and several auto mechanic diagnostic tablets that they believe were either stolen or are related to drug sales.

Items stolen from the Waverley Street home were among the goods recovered, police said.

Four men and six women were arrested and all face gun, drug and other charges.
