RCMP searching for missing 28-year-old man

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a 28-year-old man missing since Tuesday. 

Ridley Constant was last seen in the community of Umpherville, just outside The Pas, where he had been visiting his grandmother and has not been heard from since, said an RCMP news release Thursday. 

He was reported missing Wednesday and RCMP and his family are very concerned for his well-being. 

Constant is about five-foot-nine, has a thin build with short black hair and stubble, said RCMP. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt, black sweat pants and black shoes, carrying a yellow bag. He also has a tattoo on his left cheek. 

Police have made several attempts to try and find the 28-year-old, but were unsuccessful. 

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call RCMP in The Pas at 1-204-482-1222, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-627-6204 or to submit a tip online through manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Dogs treated in Acadia Bay fire

No one was injured when a home on Acadia Bay caught fire Thursday.

The city said crews responded to the home around 6:30 p.m.

Firefighters attacked the blaze and it was under control within 30 minutes.

The city’s emergency social services team provided temporary support to the residents and two dogs were treated at the scene.

The fire is under investigation.

Missing motorcyclist found dead after apparent highway crash: RCMP

A motorcyclist was found dead near the RM of Whitemouth Wednesday morning after an apparent highway collision, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release.

The victim, a 58-year-old man from the community, had not returned home as expected on Tuesday and was reported missing to Lac du Bonnet RCMP. Officers and family members searched for the man overnight, but he was not located until the following day.

A relative found the man and his motorcycle in a ditch off Highway 11, about 10 miles north of Whitemouth, and reported the incident to police at 6:30 a.m., RCMP said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

Man, 50, killed by falling tree while clearing helicopter landing zone

A 50-year-old man died in a workplace accident Wednesday, after he was crushed by a tree while clearing a helicopter landing zone on a remote site in northern Manitoba.

The man was part of a four-person crew working near Snow Lake when one of his colleagues cut a tree that fell in the wrong direction and struck him, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

Mounties learned of the accident shortly before 1:30 p.m., when officers participating in Canada Day festivities at a beach in Snow Lake spotted a helicopter land in the parking lot of the nearby health centre, the release said.

Snow Lake is located about 600 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

Police worked alongside paramedics, a conservation officer and hospital staff to remove the injured man from the helicopter and take him inside for treatment. He later died, RCMP said.

Mounties spoke with one of the helicopter’s passengers, a 21-year-old man, who told them of the incident. Officers were then transported to the site to examine the scene.

RCMP is conducting an investigation. Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health has also been notified.

Kinew taking aerial tour of flooded Parkland region

Premier Wab Kinew is taking an aerial tour of the Parkland region to assess the devastation in the area after widespread flooding hit the region earlier this week.

Kinew will be flying over Dauphin and Swan River via helicopter. He is scheduled to speak with reporters around 5 p.m. when he lands back in Winnipeg.

Parts of the region are under a mandatory evacuation order after flooding washed out several roads and highways. Parts of Swan River are being evacuated and a power outage at Dauphin’s hospital prompted the evacuation of patients to other facilities in the region.

Thirty states of local emergency have been declared in relation to the flooding, while more than 50 provincial roads remain damaged, flooded or washed out. Some areas received more than 200 mm of rain over the last few days.
