MOON ALERT: After 1:45 a.m. there are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The moon is in Pisces.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Think before you speak or act because something going on behind the scenes might affect your daily routine. Sudden changes, new information and conflicting plans are likely. Be careful because this is a mildly accident-prone day for you, as well.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

A dispute with a friend about money, the cost of something or perhaps a possession of yours might arise. It could create a sudden rift. This issue might also take place with a group instead of a friend. Keep your eyes open to avoid losses.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Relations with bosses, parents, VIPs and the police are subject to sudden bursts of anger, rebellion or surprises. Be careful when dealing with authority figures because you might be caught off-guard. Be cool.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

Once again, travel plans are subject to sudden changes, cancellations or new directions. If you have to make decisions about legal or medical matters, travel, publishing issues or higher education — do your homework. Make no assumptions.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Unexpected issues might impact your financial assets and shared property. In turn, this could affect your relationship with a group or friend. You might let someone down because you can no longer provide the support they expected. Late deliveries or broken items might be an issue.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a poor day for important discussions with parents, bosses and authority figures, as well as with spouses, partners and close friends, because things are at odds. People don’t agree with each other.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Work-related travel plans might go awry or be delayed. Efforts to deal with foreign countries, deliveries, legal and medical matters, and to keep schedules on track are thwarted by unexpected obstacles. Do your best. That’s all you can do.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Be patient with your kids. Likewise, romantic partners have to be patient with each other as well, especially if disputes about shared property or costs arise. (People are always touchy about money.) Don’t jump to conclusions. Be aware and patient to prevent potential accidents.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Patience is your best friend because interactions with partners, spouses and close friends are completely unpredictable. They might be upset about something or do something you least expect. (Possibly, you are rigid or stubborn.) If you keep cool, you are best equipped to deal with whatever happens.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Work-related issues as well as your daily routine are up for grabs, probably because of unexpected influences, obstacles or possible accidents. Therefore, be aware. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Nothing will unfold as expected. Be mindful and vigilant to minimize any problems that might arise.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Money issues, especially related to your kids, social outings or vacations, might blow up in your face. It could also be a disagreement about the cost of something. You might suddenly lose your tickets or have muddled directions. Something unexpected will likely occur.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

The day is unpredictable, perhaps even explosive. It’s also accident-prone. Therefore, keep your wits about you. Patience will be your best friend. Think before you speak or act. Don’t make a big deal about anything. (Five years from now, will this matter?) Take it easy.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Singer, songwriter Bill Withers (1938-2020) shared your birthday. You are purposeful. Your relationships with others mean something. You are loyal, progressive and willing to defend. This is a playful, fun-loving year for you. Let your guard down and loosen up a bit. Enjoy yourself, but don’t lose sight of your goals. Old friends might reappear.

Ref ‘dominates’ game in Sea Bears loss to Honey Badgers, says coach

Joshua Frey-Sam 7 minute read Yesterday at 7:40 PM CDT

Following a festive Christmas-in-July-themed Saturday afternoon inside Canada Life Centre, Winnipeg Sea Bears head coach Mike Raimbault didn’t mince words about who he thought was the Grinch in a hard-fought 88-86 loss to the visiting Brampton Honey Badgers that ended in controversy.

As the Sea Bears owned a one-point lead in Target Score Time, Brampton guard Sean East II was awarded three free throws — all of which he converted — after a questionable foul called on Teddy Allen by official Perry Stothart.

Raimbault, who has been known to bite his tongue on such topics, left nothing to the imagination about where he stood on the game-deciding judgment made in a game that had major post-season implications.

“I just felt like it was a fitting ending to the game where Perry Stothart had dominated the flow of the game from the start,” he said. “For him to call a bit of a guess foul and end the game on the foul, I felt like it’s disappointing that he can come in and dictate how the game’s going to be played and flow, and (that) continues to be a bit of an M.O. for him. So I think we’re disappointed with the fact that the league continues to let that happen.”

Daycare grapples with five-year-old’s outbursts, choking incidents

Maggie Macintosh 4 minute read Friday, Jul. 24, 2026

A Windsor Park child-care facility is weighing a five-year-old’s right to care versus the safety of other children who have been choked.

Little People’s Place expelled a pre-schooler in the spring in response to his aggressive behaviour toward other children and staff.

The child’s family has appealed to the province for him to be reinstated.

The case is raising concerns about inclusion support resources and measures to protect everyone at the Cottonwood Road daycare.

Firefighter accused of violating protection order jailed for past harassment

Dean Pritchard 5 minute read Thursday, Jul. 23, 2026

A Winnipeg firefighter accused of violating a protection order this week has been jailed two times in the past decade for criminally harassing two different women, court records show.

In each case, Christopher Goethals was allowed to return to his job with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

Goethals, 59, was arrested July 21 after breaching a protection order requiring he not come within 200 metres of a named protected person, police said.

Police allege Goethals was in full uniform and on “modified duties” driving a WFPS fleet vehicle at the time of the offence.
