TORONTO – Several people were injured following a chaotic scene in Toronto that involved gunfire, a carjacking and pedestrians hit by a car.

Police say they responded at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of gunshots fired east of downtown Toronto, hours after an unrelated shooting at the Salsa on St. Clair festival left two people dead.

Police say a man and a second suspect exchanged gunfire, and then the man stole a rideshare driver’s car with passengers aboard, and struck pedestrians and other vehicles while fleeing the area.

Police say multiple people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, including the man.

A pedestrian hit by the fleeing car was also taken to hospital.

A 25-year-old from Brampton was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including discharging a firearm recklessly and robbery.
