ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Financial speculation might be rewarding. Meanwhile, expect surprise invitations to socialize. You might also suddenly decide about a vacation or a future sporting event. Relations with kids will be spontaneous and fun.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Avoid power struggles with partners, spouses and close friends. Nevertheless, something favourable or financially attractive might benefit your family. You might buy something for your home. You might receive a gift. Or your family might have a new addition.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Spontaneous short trips and chances to meet new faces and see new places will please you. Work-related discussions might be challenging. Steer clear of controversial subjects like politics and religion because they could turn nasty. Stay chill.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

This is a financially fortuitous day for you. You might suddenly make more money or get a bit richer for some reason. If you have a chance to pursue a new job offer or ask for a raise — do it. Be patient with your kids and likewise, be patient with romantic partners to avoid arguments.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

An encounter with a friend or a member of a group might surprise you, because it turns out to be something other than you expected. It might broaden your horizons in some way or extend your connections. Perhaps you will meet a new friend. Be patient at home.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Avoid arguments with daily contacts, siblings and relatives, especially if you are trying hard to make a point or convince others to agree with you. Give it up. Instead, focus on some inner realizations that might occur — perhaps an epiphany. Listen to your inner world.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

A friendship might delight you. Or perhaps, you’ll become involved with an organization or club in a new way. Whatever happens will be unexpected and sudden. Avoid disagreements about money and possessions. Be smart.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You might give in to impulsive or compulsive behaviour. You might also encounter an emotional power struggle with someone — perhaps because someone is reacting to something that suddenly makes you look good. Something unexpected favours you. There might be jealousy.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Unexpected opportunities to travel might fall into your lap. If so, act quickly, because this window of opportunity will be brief. Likewise, a chance to explore something in publishing, medicine, the law or higher education might also appear out of nowhere. Act fast.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Avoid money squabbles or arguments about possessions. Instead, keep your eyes open because you might benefit in practical or financial ways through the wealth and resources of someone else. Or you might get money back from the government. Could be anything

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You’re high-viz, which is why it’s in your best interest not to have a public argument. Why end up with egg on your face? Instead, focus on partnerships and close relationships because something unexpected will delight you. Be open to whatever happens.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Steer clear of controversial subjects, because they could become emotionally charged. This is a great day to improve your health or job. Your chance to do so will have a very brief window, so if something arises, be prepared to act fast. Something pet-related might also delight you.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor-comedian Robin Williams (1951-2014) shares your birthday. You are both extroverted and introverted. You’re curious, determined and an independent thinker. You have an extraordinary understanding of human nature. This is a slower-paced year. It’s OK to rest and rejuvenate your energy. Focus on relationships with those who are kind, helpful and have your back.

Safety assessment planned following drownings

Nicole Buffie 4 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 9:23 PM CDT

The Manitoba government will conduct an assessment of high-risk trails and areas in its parks system following the drownings of two siblings at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell.

Environment Minister Mike Moyes has ordered his department to identify high-risk areas after Maximo Au Ramirez, 10, slipped on rocks near Sturgeon Falls and fell in the lake Saturday. His brother, Aaron Au Ramirez, 13, went in to try to save him.

The body of Aaron was recovered Thursday evening, 24 hours after his brother’s body was found Wednesday.

“We have a lot of beautiful parks and spaces, but to flag any areas that could need greater improvements for safety, and so we’re going to take a really comprehensive approach to ensuring that Manitobans can enjoy nature, but do it in a way that’s safe,” Moyes said Thursday.

A Winnipeg firefighter accused of violating a protection order this week has been jailed two times in the past decade for criminally harassing two different women, court records show.

In each case, Christopher Goethals was allowed to return to his job with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

Goethals, 59, was arrested July 21 after breaching a protection order requiring he not come within 200 metres of a named protected person, police said.

Police allege Goethals was in full uniform and on “modified duties” driving a WFPS fleet vehicle at the time of the offence.
