Interlake traffic stop leads to drug bust

A man and a woman are facing numerous charges after a traffic stop led to police seizing a large quantity of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Last Wednesday around 7:30 a.m., RCMP pulled over a car on Highway 6 south of Grosse Isle, in the RM of Rosser. Following a conversation with the driver and passenger, officers believed the pair, who had been travelling overnight from Thompson to Winnipeg, were in possession of proceeds of crime and arrested them. Officers found and seized more than $10,000 cash from the man and woman.

RCMP later learned the male suspect had given officers a fake name and that he was wanted on a warrant for drug trafficking. Police obtained a search warrant for the man’s home in Winnipeg, where officers seized approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine, 700 suspected fentanyl pills, score sheets and other items.

Malcolm Lado, 23, is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with a release order.

A 24-year-old woman from Winnipeg faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. She was released on a notice to appear in court in November.
