Ballet in the Park cancelled Tuesday night owing to extreme heat

4:43 PM

Opening night of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Ballet in the Park has been cancelled, owing to temperatures that reached 40 C with the humidex onstage at Assiniboine Park’s Lyric Theatre.

“After carefully considering the conditions, we’ve determined that cancelling is the safest decision for our dancers, crew, volunteers, and audience,” said a spokesperson for the RWB.

Audience members for the free event are advised to check the company’s website at rwb.org for news about Wednesday and Thursday’s shows; temperatures are expected to reach 35 C and 30 C, respectively.

The mixed-repertoire performances get underway at 7 p.m. each night.
