The Pas RCMP searching for missing 20-year-old woman

Police in The Pas are asking for help from the public to find a missing 20-year-old woman. 

Rasheeda Faith-Joyce Eninew, 20, was last seen in the community Monday, said an RCMP news release. Police and her family are worried for her well-being.

Eninew was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon and RCMP said she was last spotted a day earlier carrying a guitar and riding an electric scooter in The Pas, located roughly 625 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg. 

She is described as 5’5 with a heavy build, said RCMP, noting there is no description of what she was wearing. 

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact RCMP in The Pas at 1-204-627-6204.

Norway House man faces second degree murder charge

A Norway House man has been arrested after an altercation ended with one man dead.

RCMP were called to a home on Paupanekis Point early Tuesday after receiving reports of a severely injured man. Officers were told by emergency services that the man had died, possibly due to a stabbing.

Investigators say the 36-year-old victim and the 33-year-old suspect fought in the home before the suspect fled. They knew each other at the time of the incident.

The suspect, from Norway House, was located and arrested without incident. He has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.

Man assaulted, robbed, left stranded: police

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a 21-year-old man reported being assaulted, robbed and threatened with a firearm before being left stranded on a back road outside Bowsman.

The victim told Swan River RCMP he went for a drive with a man, whom he knew, before the incident occurred on Aug. 5.

After being given a description, officers located a matching vehicle in Swan River and arrested a man during a traffic stop.

A search warrant was later executed at the accused’s residence, where officers found BB guns and a firearm that matched the description of the weapon used in the robbery.

The man faces multiple charges, including robbery with a firearm, assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm and other firearm-related offences.

He remains in custody.

New path for St. Vital-area park

A pathway in a St. Vital-area park is set for an upgrade.

Construction will begin this month on a $284-K project to rebuild an asphalt pathway in Brentford Park, a city news release said Thursday.

The path, which will be more than 750 metres in length, is expected to be ready by the fall.

Coun. Brian Mayes (St. Vital), who is not running for re-election in October’s civic vote, noted one of his first announcements after being elected in 2011 was for a new play structure in Brentford Park.

“It’s fitting that all these years later we are returning to announce new funding to rebuild the park’s pathways,” Mayes said in the release.

Arrest made in 2023 homicide

Police have made an arrest nearly three years after a man died after being assaulted on a Keenleyside Street sidewalk in 2023.

Joseph Robert Campbell, 24, was assaulted on the 300 block of Keenleyside Street on Oct. 14, 2023. He was found by police with serious injuries and died in hospital shortly after.

Skylar Rain Gamblin, 21, was arrested Tuesday and has been charged with second degree murder. He remains in custody. A news release from the Winnipeg Police Service Thursday said the investigation was ongoing.

A relative of the victim told the Free Press after his death that Campbell was a young father and had left a friend’s home in East Elmwood that night.

No one hurt in West End vacant house fire

No one was hurt and a home was evacuated as a precaution during a fire in a vacant home on Sherbrook Street Thursday morning.

Fire crews were sent to the home in the 500 block just before 6 a.m. At the scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. The fire was declared under control three hours later.

A neighbouring home was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Winnipeg Transit provided a bus for temporary shelter for evacuated residents.

Two boys drown on Manitoba First Nation

Two toddlers are dead after being pulled from a lake on Garden Hill Anisininew Nation Wednesday.

Island Lake RCMP received a report at 1:45 p.m. that two boys had been rushed to the First Nation’s nursing station after a possible drowning, Mounties said in a news release Thursday.

Mounties were told the boys, ages one and two, had been found in the lake by a family member and brought to the nursing station by the First Nation’s safety officers.

Mounties said it’s believed the boys managed to leave their home, entered the nearby lake and drowned.

Foul play is not suspected.

“This is devastating for the family and the entire community,” Sgt. Chris Hipolito of the Island Lake RCMP detachment said in a news release. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident.”

Garden Hill is located approximately 610 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg.

RCMP continue to investigate.
