Unclear if employee info compromised in HSC hack

The Health Sciences Centre has retained experts and informed law enforcement about an ongoing ransomware incident at the hospital, but said it’s too early to determine if the personal information of employees has been compromised.

Shared Health provided an update Friday and said the attack, discovered Monday, has resulted in the closure of its security office, where IDs are issued and modified, and also affected a system monitoring the facility’s HVAC. However, it did not affect operations. 

The update said the HSC remains secure, and while it’s too early to determine whether or not personal information has been affected, if it becomes known, those compromised will be informed immediately and be provided with recommended next steps.

The update said safeguarding information is a key priority.
