MOON ALERT: There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The moon is in Scorpio.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

This is a passionate, intense day. Although your impulse is to play and socialize — check out the temperature of the room first. Increased chaos and activity at home are challenging; but fortunately, fair Venus opposite your sign promotes warmth in all your relations.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg is 48 today.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

You might have to go more than halfway when dealing with others because the moon is opposite your sign. Be co-operative and accommodating. Family discussions will be upbeat; however, someone might be stubborn. Work-related relations are mutually supportive.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

What you need is for someone to listen to you. (You like to share your ideas.) You also like to learn new things. Your first impulse is to be of service to others or to help someone if you can. However, steer clear of intense discussions.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

With fiery Mars in your sign, you have lots of energy! Although you have a strong focus on money, earnings and cash flow, social outings will appeal to you. Check out sporting events, movies, fun get-togethers and playful activities with kids.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

Home and family have your attention. Or perhaps, you want to keep a low profile? A discussion with a female family member is likely. Fortunately, with fair Venus in your house of communications, things will flow smoothly.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

When talking to others, you want to have a real, meaningful conversation — not just superficial chit-chat. Therefore, seek out someone who is willing to have a dialogue with you. In particular, competitive sports, athletics and group activities will appeal.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You have a tendency to identify with your possessions. You might consider buying wardrobe items because probably, you will like what you see in the mirror. You might shop for a new look you want to assume. (Of course, Oscar Wilde said, “Be yourself — everyone else is taken.”)

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

The moon is in your sign, which gives you a slight edge over all the other signs. However, this can make you more emotional than usual. Meanwhile, you create a great impression on everyone because the sun is casting you in a flattering spotlight. A favourable situation!

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You’re keen to get out of town or find a change of scenery; nevertheless, now in particular, you’re happy to be low-key and work alone or behind the scenes. Disputes about taxes, debt, credit and shared property might arise. Fortunately, relations with friends and groups are cosy.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You’re giving thought to your friendships, which is why contact between you and a friend might be deeper than usual. You might even feel protective or supportive of someone. Be patient with partners and close friends, because Mars opposite your sign might be testy.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You are high-viz, which means people notice you more than usual. Be aware of this in case you have to do some damage control. Keep in mind that you need more sleep this week. Fortunately, fiery Mars will help you work with vigour! Go figure.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

You’re happy to work and accomplish things this week. You’re also open to socializing and checking out competitive sports. But now in particular, you want to do something different. You want to break free from your routine. Travel would be a nice option. If you can’t travel, then be a tourist in your own city.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Andy Samberg (1978) shares your birthday. You’re farsighted, benevolent and progressive. An independent thinker, you want to improve the lives of others. This is the last year of a nine-year cycle. Take inventory of your life. Let go of people, places and things that have held you back. Do some internal and external housecleaning. Commune with nature.

Carney touts ‘substantial progress’ after Trump delays tariffs for three days

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Tuesday a last-minute deal to delay new tariffs from slamming an array of Canadian products for three days.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said in response there’s still important work to do.

"Over the last number of weeks, Canada has engaged in intensive discussions with the United States to address outstanding trade issues and deliver greater certainty and real benefits for Canadian businesses, workers, farmers and families," Carney said in a statement.

He said "substantial progress" has been made and Canada is focused on "building a stronger, more independent and more competitive economy at home."

More doctors and nurses are working in Manitoba than ever before but health-care challenges remain, Premier Wab Kinew says.

The province has added 4,725 net new health-care workers to the provincial system since the NDP won the October 2023 election, Kinew told reporters Tuesday.

The government’s total includes 370 doctors, 1,464 nurses, 2,152 health-care aides and 607 allied health professionals, a group that includes physiotherapists, dietitians, paramedics, medical lab technologists and others.

Kinew said more doctors and nurses are working in Manitoba than ever before.

Elections Alberta asks Elections Manitoba staffers to help during referendum

Manitoba’s non-partisan elections management agency could play a role in Alberta’s fall referendum.

“Elections Alberta has asked Elections Manitoba to send staff to assist with the referendum taking place there in October,” said Tessa Vanderhart, a spokesperson with the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Manitoba.

The Oct. 19 referendum will ask Albertans 10 questions, including “Should Alberta remain a province of Canada, or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?”

Each of the referendum questions will be on separate numbered and colour-coded ballots. They will be counted by hand, the Elections Alberta website says. With an estimated 2,966,192 voters in the province — registered as of May 2025 — there could be as many as 30 million ballots to count.

Paralyzed foster girl has system under a microscope

Chris Kitching 6 minute read Yesterday at 2:00 AM CDT

An internal investigation by Manitoba’s Families Department is nearly complete in the case of a six-year-old girl who is paralyzed after being assaulted by her foster mother in Winnipeg.

The review by child-welfare officials is intended to prevent similar incidents, but it’s unlikely the public will learn the findings or recommendations.

“We’re working closely with the (child and family services) authority to make sure that every recommendation is taken seriously and implemented,” Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine said Monday.

“They’re important (investigations) because they help us identify what went wrong so we can make those changes to ensure something like this tragedy never happens again.”
