MOON ALERT: After 3:45 a.m. today there are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The moon is in Sagittarius.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

You might be interested in unusual, powerful ideas. They might be mystical and idealistic. They might even be related to improving yourself somehow. Nevertheless, be aware this is also a mildly accident-prone day for you. Pay attention to everything you say and do.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Yes, you are the financial wizard of the zodiac; right now, however, you have to be on your toes. You might be confused about something, financially speaking. You might be tempted to give away the farm. You might be deceived. Something unexpected could impact your assets. Stay awake!

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

You might genuinely want to help a friend because you feel sympathetic. You might also be moved by philosophical or powerful ideas. Meanwhile, someone might surprise you. Stay light on your feet.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You might have a strong desire to make improvements to your health or job. This is coming from a desire for perfection, perhaps. However, something out of the blue could be unsettling. It might make you change your mind suddenly.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a romantic day for you. You’re also in touch with your muse, which is why you can express your creative talents. Nevertheless, a friend or member of a group might throw you a curveball. Parents should also be aware this is a mildly accident-prone day for your kids. Be vigilant!

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Your home routine might be interrupted. A minor appliance might break down or a small outage could occur. Be aware of this. If you’re making a decision to share property or money with someone — double-check your information. Something could be off. If you suspect this, do nothing.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This might be a lovely day for you to shop for wardrobe items, because your appreciation of beauty is heightened. Nevertheless, it’s also a mildly accident-prone day for you, so pay attention and keep your eyes open. A romantic connection might be powerful.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Keep an eye on your money and possessions, because an element of confusion is present. You might feel generous and then later regret it. You might be confused or even deceived about finances. Something unexpected could impact your assets through loss, theft or damage. Be alert! (The world needs more lerts.)

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

The moon is in your sign dancing with Pluto, Neptune and Uranus. This is a tricky combination! Your idealism is aroused and you might feel sympathetic to children and romantic partners.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You might be happiest being low-key and working alone or behind the scenes. You’ll feel reassured. Nevertheless, keep an eye on your money and possessions. Be realistic when dealing with a family member. Pet owners should be vigilant because this could be an accident-prone day for your animal.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Friendships are important to you. You might idealize a friend or want to help them in some way. Stay steady, because something out of left field could impact a friendship. It might relate to romance or children. Or you might meet a real character?

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

People notice you. They might admire you or they might even attribute qualities to you that you don’t think you possess. (Don’t worry about this.) However, something unexpected related to home and family might surprise you. Steady as she goes.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Amy Adams (1974) shares your birthday. You’re sensible and have an analytical, problem-solving mind. You’re friendly; but you need time alone. This is a slower-paced year. Take time to rejuvenate your energies and your outlook. Focus on business and personal relationships, especially with people who are kind, helpful and have your back.

Not everyone enters medical school with a built-in study buddy.

Sisters Maya and Dana Jalal joined 135 of their classmates to don white coats and mark the beginning of their journey through the University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College of Medicine Wednesday morning.

Maya, 22, and Dana, 21, were accepted into medical school at the same time.

“Thankfully, we both got accepted in the same area, same time. So we decided we’d rather go together than apart,” Maya said. “It’ll be nice seeing different perspectives during our studies. We are siblings, but we each have our own perspectives, our own lived experiences.”

The province must take immediate action to increase low staffing levels that are putting Selkirk emergency room nurses at risk, a letter sent to the premier and health minister says.

The letter, sent by the Manitoba Nurses Union and signed by 35 ER nurses, detailed multiple recent incidents at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. In one case, a nurse was stabbed with a pen by a patient who had been waiting 24 hours for care. In another case, a nurse was bitten by a patient.

“Nurses in that emergency department are extremely frustrated,” said Manitoba Nurses Union president Darlene Jackson. “This is not something that happened in the last month — or overnight — these are problems that have been growing.”

The five-page letter was sent Tuesday to Premier Wab Kinew, Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara and leaders of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority. It contained 10 requests to improve safety inside the emergency department, including establishing safer nurse-to-patient staffing levels, eliminating the practice of “single physician coverage” in the emergency department and implementing an institutional safety officer around the clock.

WASHINGTON - Canada-U.S. Minister Dominic LeBlanc smiled widely beside U.S. President Donald Trump's trade czar in Washington on Wednesday as they touted a draft deal which appears to have averted a new round of punishing tariffs on Canada.

United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said he feels confident the agreement will protect American workers and jobs while strengthening the North American market, making the continent a manufacturing and energy powerhouse.

"We certainly, I think, have eliminated some of the irritants that we've had over the past year," he said, "We also are taking a strong foot forward."

Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a statement that the new deal reinforces and builds on Canada's existing trade advantages with the U.S.

Manitoba’s liquor regulator has accused an Exchange District nightclub of exceeding its occupant capacity limit and hindering the work of inspectors.

Diablo, located at Main Street and Bannatyne Avenue, is scheduled to appeal two compliance orders, issued by the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba, at a Sept. 8 hearing.

An LGCA spokesperson said the compliance orders are part of an ongoing investigation.

The spokesperson said one of the orders was issued after the licensed club was over capacity April 26.
