NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Sophomore Quinn Henicle threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others in his first regular-season start, leading Old Dominion to a 31-10 victory over FCS opponent Norfolk State on Saturday.

Henicle’s 13-yard touchdown run and an 11-yard TD pass to TJ Johnson helped stake the Monarchs (1-0) to a 17-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Henicle added a 14-yard touchdown pass to Johnson and also scored on a 2-yard run.

Henicle completed 9 of 12 passes for 137 yards and added 68 yards rushing.

The Old Dominion defense allowed just 220 yards with three takeaways, three sacks and 11 tackles for loss.

Jalyn Daniels ran for 84 yards for the Spartans (1-1). Deljay Bailey was held to 94 yards passing. His 3-yard run in the final minute of the first half was Norfolk State’s only touchdown.

Old Dominion wore special camouflage jerseys to honor the memory of Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, who was killed in an on-campus incident on March 12.

Old Dominion holds a 5-0 record against Norfolk State. Both universities are located in Norfolk.
