Fire officials say one person was assessed by paramedics after what was likely an accidental explosion in Winnipeg’s Riverview neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

Just before noon, firefighters were called to the explosion, which took place at a two-storey apartment on the 300 block of Clare Avenue, said a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service news release Wednesday.

When crews arrived, they found damage to the building and checked for other dangers — including a blaze caused by the blast — but none were found, said the WFPS.

The building was evacuated as a precaution and paramedics checked one person on scene, said the release, no other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg’s emergency social services team helped those affected by the incident, which remains under investigation, but early findings suggest the blast was accidental.

No damage estimate was available.
